Social Sciences Board
The duties of the Social Sciences Board (sometimes refered to as the Divisional Board) are set down by University Statute. The Board has oversight of the organisation, development, and delivery of curricula in collaboration with the colleges, and oversight and development of the general context of research in the Social Sciences. It prepares five-year strategic plans and approves annually departmental budgets and operating statements. It is also ultimately responsible for the appointment and reappointment of academic staff, and the maintenance of educational quality and standards. It undertakes, jointly with the Education Committee, periodic strategic reviews of units in the division.
The Standing Orders of the Board are available as a pdf.
All heads of department are ex officio members together with a set of 5 places on the board with representation in these places rotating across the 14 departments of the division every two years. A list of current members is available at http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/councilsec/oxonly/socialsciencesboardmembership/
The Board meets twice each term, on Friday of Second and Seventh Week. Minutes and agendas can be found here (restricted access).
There is also a Committee on Library Provision in Social Sciences which reports business to the Board as do the management committees for the three cross-divisional units hosted in the division.
