Bullying and Harassment Policy
The University condemns harassment as an unacceptable form of behaviour, and has a service and an Advisors' Network to help staff and students who have witnessed or experienced bullying or harassment.
Bullying can be defined as offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, or an abuse or misuse of power through means intended to undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient. Harassment is considered to be unwanted conduct affecting the dignity of men and women in the workplace, where the actions or comments of an individual are viewed as demeaning and unacceptable to the recipient. This behaviour may be related to age, sex, race, disability, religion, nationality or any personal characteristic of the individual, and may be persistent or an isolated incident.
If you have experienced harassment and would like help and support, you can make use of the University’s confidential harassment advisor network. There are approximately 300 harassment advisers within the University, with two (one of either sex) appointed within each department and faculty, and confidential advisors appointed within the colleges.
Bullying and harassment are always unacceptable. The University is committed to providing an environment where individuals are treated with dignity and respect and can work free from any type of discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
