ResearcherConnect Monday Meet-ups

Developing your peer network is an essential part of your doctoral experience, and many of our new research students have expressed interest in meeting researchers with similar geographical research areas. To facilitate this, we’re adding a new series of informal meet-ups to our programme for the year.

The format will be:

  1. Two invited senior student speakers, each to give 5 minutes of ultra-practical insights into how they found their feet in Oxford: the seminar series’ they find useful, blogs and social media accounts they follow, mailing lists they subscribe to, and so on, followed by quick Q&A.
  2. An opportunity to exchange (in writing) your contact details and research interests with other researchers present
  3. Two networking breakout sessions, where you’ll be in small groups, talking about your research interests and sharing experiences so far.

The geographical categories are intentionally broad

Africa, Australasia, East Asia, Europe and UK, South Asia, Middle East, North America, South America, South-East Asia

Over the course of this academic year, we’ll run two meet-ups for each geographical category. As they run, we’ll explore with participants whether they'd like the breakout sessions to be grouped in a particular way.

We know it’s not the same as having lunch in college and meeting people, or meeting for a cup of tea in a sunny café, and we will get back to that eventually! But in the meantime, we hope you find this a useful and social addition.
