The Division holds regular workshops and briefings on the main social science funders and funding schemes. Please see the Skills and Resources webpages for more information.
Slides from briefings and guidance and template documents are available in the Division’s research support SharePoint site (accessible to University members only). This includes advice targeted at researchers at different career stages.
Funding opportunities: The Division sends out regular emails about funding opportunities. Further information can be found in Research Professional, an online research funding opportunities database and alerting service. Guidance on how to use the service is available on the University Research Support website.
European funding: The Oxford Gateway to Europe website provides news, information, events and deadlines related to EC and Horizon 2020 funding.
Coordinated bids: Some external funding bodies limit the number of applications that the institution as a whole can submit to them. In this case, the University's Research Services will run a coordinated bids process and applications will be dealt with as a gathered field at Divisional level. Details of funding schemes for which coordinated bids are required are available on the Coordinated Bids website.
The University has several funding schemes which are open to academics and researchers at Oxford:
John Fell OUP Research Fund - contact email@example.com, for more information.
Incubators for Global Challenges Research Fund
Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF): There is some funding for research by social scientists. Please contact Sharron Pleydell-Pearce, Senior Research Facilitator, for more information.
CNRS-Oxford Collaboration Scheme
Returning Carers' Fund for academic and research staff
Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity Fund
Some departments have their own research funding schemes, please contact your department to find out more.
The Division holds funds to support Knowledge Exchange and Impact activities.
Support for researchers in applying for funding
Support for researchers in the Social Sciences is provided through local services in each department. Most departments have staff or teams who provide research support. If you have any questions about making a research funding application, please get in touch with your department in the first instance. More information about research support in departments.
In the Division, Sharron Pleydell-Pearce, Senior Research Facilitator, can provide bespoke training, advice, and information seminars for departments, research centres and researchers at particular career stages, eg early or mid-career researchers.
The University provides specialist advice and support about research funding and managing awards to departments and Principal Investigators through Research Services, the Finance Division (especially Research Accounts) and Isis Innovation Ltd.
