Oxford University has been ranked number one in the world in four subject areas in the latest QS World Rankings by Subject. The University came first in Archaeology, Geography, Anatomy and Physiology, English Language and Literature.

This league table ranks the world’s top universities in individual subject areas, covering 46 subjects as of 2017.

The subject tables are grouped into 5 faculties. Oxford is ranked first for Arts & Humanities; 3rd for Social Sciences & Management; 9th for Engineering & Technology; 3rd for Life Sciences & Medicine; and 5th for Natural Sciences.

Published annually since 2011, the rankings by subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.
