  • Internal and external funding

The Divisional Research Facilitation team provides information and briefings on specific funding calls, advice on the development of research funding trajectories across career stages, development workshops for writing applications, and training in writing effective grant applications, and managing large projects.

  • Research Support in Departments

Support for researchers in the Social Sciences is provided through local services in each department. All departments have staff or teams who provide research support. If you have any questions about making a research funding application, please get in touch with your department in the first instance. Primary contacts are given below.

  • John Fell OUP Research Fund

The Fell Fund is an internal Oxford University fund, which is open to academics and researchers at Oxford. Its purpose is to complement external research funding, for example by funding early-stage (or ‘pilot’) research that is not sufficiently developed to be submitted to an external funder. It is intended to foster a proactive approach to research opportunities in all subject areas, and particularly interdisciplinary fields.

  • Incubators for Global Challenges Research Fund

The Division is seeking new proposals for research initiatives aligned with the Global Challenges Research Fund themes (GCRF). This uses the Incubator themes model as a method for ensuring broad engagement and development of research capability, specifically to address these important themes. These will be led by academics with permanent academic/research appointments in the Social Sciences Division, interested in driving the development of interdisciplinary research collaborations with colleagues both outside their own department at Oxford, and in other universities. Funding of between £40,000 and £60,000 is available per GCRF-theme Incubator, for coordination, networking and development activities. It is likely that the division will make 1-3 awards.
