Teaching Awards in the Division

Teaching Awards in the Division

The Division allocates two annual schemes intended to support and enhance teaching and learning. The first is the Teaching Excellence Award recognition scheme, and the second is a funded Teaching Development and Enhancement Project (TDEP). The schemes are open to all SSD staff who teach.

A second round of the 2017 funded TDEP awards was held over the long vacation, and three projects were successful.

OPEN RESEARCH: LAURA FORTUNATO, SCHOOL OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND MUSEUM ETHNOGRAPHY

This course will provide training in effective research practise and the use of computation tools in research first to Anthropology students before opening enrolment to other graduate cohorts from 2020. The course will be comprised of a number of theoretical and practical sessions that will address current issues, such as the reproducibility of research, and develop effective computing and data skills.

VICARIOUS TRAUMA ONLINE RESOURCES PROJECT: ELEANOR PRITCHARD, SOCIAL SCIENCES DIVISION

This project will meet a growing demand for specialist research skills training for students who carry out research with traumatised research participants. A suite of e-learning resources will be developed specifically written for SSD researchers both pre- and post-exposure and will be accessible from anywhere in the world. The project will supplement current face-to-face training, and increase the number of those able to access support.

SUPPORTING AND CULTIVATING SUCCESSFUL TEACHING ASSISTANTS: MATTHEW WILLIS, OXFORD INTERNET INSTITUTE

This project will meet a growing need for a programme of structured training and development for TAs in the OII. Monthly meetings will be held during term-time at which TAs can share their experiences, and develop their awareness of different pedagogical concept through discussions and regular presentations. A workshop is planned for the end of term in order to synthesise concepts learnt over the term.

The Division are currently welcoming applications for funding to the 2018 TDEP awards. Please submit all applications or questions to Cathy King, qa@socsci.ox.ac.uk. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 4 January. The schedule for the unfunded Teaching Excellence Awards scheme will be announced in Hilary Term 2019.
