Professor Dame Jessica Rawson has been named as the 2022 winner of the highly-prestigious Tang Prize in Sinology for her ‘trail-blazing’ scholarship and her ‘gift and mastery’ in reading Chinese civilization through art and artefacts.
Professor Dame Rawson is the Oxford Emeritus Professor of Chinese Art and Archaeology and former Warden of Merton College. Deeply honoured to have received the award, Professor Rawson said, ‘My research has generally turned on noting small things, small inconsistencies, which have prompted me to explore why they are there – leading to some big picture discoveries.’
