Business Process Redesign

Business Process Redesign online training

About the training

This session will introduce social science researchers to an organisational change tool - process redesign. Such a tool is extremely useful in generating organisational change and impact and can be applied to a variety of settings. It is also a consulting technique that any researcher may need to harness as part of their career journey. The course is suitable for DPhils and ECRs who are interested in organisational processes, collaborations with non-academic organisations and consulting.

Objectives

  • Understand why organisations map business processes
  • Understand what a business process is
  • Understand what process mapping is
  • Understand how processes within organisations can be mapped
  • Develop a common understanding of the techniques and skills used in process mapping
  • Understand what Business Process Redesign (BPR) is
  • Understand how to evaluate existing maps
  • Understand how to develop new maps

Format

Online via Zoom. The course will be participative and use group exercises to benefit overall learning.

The session will also provide the opportunity for up to 8 researchers who want to try the (Just in Time) technique with external organisations as a follow-up to the course. These researchers will practically deploy the tool in pairs - with support - to some external organisations that have already identified processes to be mapped. This optional part of the course will take place over 3-4 weeks in the period 8 February – 5 March 2021. Please indicate whether you are interested in the practical follow-up to the course when filling in the application form.
