The Social Sciences Division Teaching Excellence Awards recognise the outstanding contribution to teaching and learning and the academic development of students shown by colleagues across the division. They may be awarded in acknowledgement of outstanding support for student learning, the development of new teaching methods and approaches, or a commitment to professional development, amongst other displays of exceptional contribution to teaching and supervision.
Financial prizes of £300 are available for Teaching Excellence Award winners.
Teaching Excellence Awards may be awarded under one of four categories:
- a) Teaching Excellence Awards: Individual/Team Awards for Academic Staff
- b) Teaching Excellence Awards: Individual Awards for Academic Staff (Early Career Strand)
- c) Achievement Award for Sustained Commitment to Education
- d) Excellence in Supervision Award
How to apply
We warmly encourage staff to put themselves forward for nomination, or nominate a colleague. All applications should be returned to Jonny Barnes (Quality Assurance & Enhancement Officer) at QA@socsci.ox.ac.uk, by noon on Friday 4 April 2025.
Applications under categories (a), (b), and (d) may be made directly by individuals or by Head of Department nomination. Nominations for the Achievement Award (c) must be made by Heads of Department.
Interested parties should submit a brief application to the division of no more than 2,000 words as specified in the application guidance.
All applications will be judged by an academic panel of the division’s Quality Assurance Committee.
The award categories, criteria and application guidance have recently been revised, so we would advise that nominees pay close attention to the guidance notes for full information about eligibility and application expectations.
