DTP Research in Practice and Placements Coordinator
I am responsible for the development and operational delivery of the Research in Practice (RinP) programme of the ESRC-funded Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP). Grand Union brings together social scientists from the University of Oxford, Open University, and Brunel University of London.
RinP is a core component of the ESRC doctoral training offer. It was introduced to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application by integrating professional development with academic training. It aims to develop globally competitive social scientists with the skills and experience to operate in interdisciplinary, collaborative, and challenge-led environments.
I help students across the GUDTP to co-develop and undertake placements in academia, policy, business, or a third-sector organisation, as part of their studentship. Through this activity, I forge and nurture connections with prospective academic and non-academic partners, enabling knowledge exchange opportunities and mutually beneficial collaborations with the industry. I work closely with the GUDTP Training Lead to address the professional development needs of our student cohort and offer individual support in identifying and accessing appropriate training opportunities. Lastly, I lead the development and implementation of our communications strategy for knowledge exchange across digital media.
