5 June 10:00
Responsible Knowledge Exchange, Engagement and Impact
A Social Sciences Divisional workshop
Session details
This session offers researchers the opportunity to reflect on their own research, and to examine how responsible knowledge exchange, engagement and impact could be integrated into their own impact practice, planning and grant writing. The key themes that will be discussed are: integrity and ethics; equity, inclusion, diversity and belonging; reciprocity and sustainability; contextual sensitivity and cultural respect; sharing and openness; support and recognition. The session will share insights from the Responsible Knowledge Exchange, Engagement and Impact 2021-25 (RKEEI) project that has been co-led by Prof Alis Oancea and Aileen Marshall Brown.
Practical focus
The session will focus on practical strategies and insights from the responsible engagement literature: how can we support reciprocal exchange with communities and build trust with those that we work with? What questions will help us develop lasting and equitable benefits to communities and environments beyond the life-cycle of the project? What contextual cues and insights do we need to look out for? What does this mean for how impact pathways are developed, monitored and evaluated? The session will draw out practical ideas from the Responsible Knowledge Exchange, Engagement and Impact project, which has brought together KEEI professionals and researchers in a series of workshops and interviews to co-create a resource and principles to support responsible KEEI practices. In this session we will look at the newly released open-access resource and self-assessment tool to guide responsible KEEI practice.
