SSD Co-Working Sessions

Are you struggling with motivation and need some accountability?
Feeling isolated in your work and want some company and connection?
In search of some regular structure for your weeks?

Step into our Co-Working sessions, online gatherings where focus and progress are at the heart of every session. Twice a week, join a senior DPhil student facilitator in a virtual space dedicated to advancing your academic work. It’s not about discussions or feedback; it’s about setting a rhythm for productivity alongside fellow researchers. Each session is an opportunity to work independently yet not alone, in solidarity with your peers. There’s no pressure to share or critique—just the collective energy of concentration that inspires personal motivation. Whether you’re ploughing through literature, planning data collection, or writing up your findings, the Co-Working Sessions are your scheduled appointment with progress: make them a core part of your weekly routine.

How does it work?

Open to all doctoral students and FTRs; you’re welcome to bring along whatever you’re working on (writing, reading, note taking, editing, training course, anything!).

The sessions are 9:30 to 12:30, and will consist of three x 60-minute blocks, each made up of 50 minutes’ focused work followed by a ten-minute break, like this:

09:30 - 10:20  Block 1
10:20 - 10:30  Break
10:30 - 11:20  Block 2
11:20 - 11:30  Break
11:30 - 12:20  Block 3
12:20 - 12:30  Wrap Up

Just think: by lunchtime, you could have finished three solid hours of work – a pretty good start to the week!

Every Monday and Friday through term

How does it work?

Join the CWS mailing list here and receive the Teams link for the term.

You will receive one email every week with a reminder of the Teams link, and be added to the Division's CWS Microsoft Teams group (called 'Social Sciences - CWS'). Through the Teams group,  you will be able to keep in contact with other members of the group between sessions, share resources or links. and arrange additional meet-ups (for example, during the vacations) as suits you.

You attend the sessions you can: no need to book or cancel in advance

We will generate a retrospective Cosy booking for that session, to keep your training and development transcript up to date.
