Senior Appointments Panel (SAP)

Senior Appointments Panel (SAP)

The Senior Appointments Panel (SAP) governs salary setting for senior staff in the University. The SAP is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor.

The SAP considers a range of issues, including:

  • super-scale payments for senior staff on the basis of recruitment of retention. This includes academic and senior research staff as well as senior administrative staff.
  • salary setting for Statutory Professors
  • the creation and salary setting of  RSIV (senior researcher) posts
  • the creation and salary setting of ALC6 (senior administrative) posts
  • the award of the title of Professor on the grounds of recruitment or retention
  • the annual Recognition of Distinction exercise
  • the biennial Professorial Merit Pay exercise

University HR's webpages outline what materials are required for each of the above.

Departments must seek support from the Division in order to submit a case to the SAP. Please contact Meghan Lawson, (Sarah Willcox-Jones during 2025)  Divisional Academic HR Manager, if you wish to discuss the details of a case.
